The saddest character death for me so far was...
*major spoiler up ahead for game of thrones etc*

Robb Stark's death on the third installment in the game of thrones series.
I just found the way he died absolutely horrible (and the afternath was somewhat brutal), since i much liked the character.

Runner up: Rorschach's death on the Watchmen comic. It was my #1, since he died because he thought the truth wasn't meant to be kept secret, no matter the consequences (which in this case, were nuclear war).

Do you watch the show? I didn't like him one bit, or Catelyn, but I was very said at their deaths.

WHY DID VENTI HAVE TO DIE DAMMIT. Ahem. What I meant to say was, the reason this death was so sad was because the entire town got depressed. Especially the Guardians. But, most of all Lest/Frey just seem so down. They feel like they failed to save her.

I admit I was a little... sad when Ethelberd died. I mean, yeah, he was the bad guy but... he slowly went insane for power. He longed to become a god and was defeated not once but TWICE by an Earthmate.. then his body is slowly destroyed by the overwhelming power of the Rune Spheres. And even WHILE he dies, he denies his death, forcing himself to believe he is finally an Earthmate, stronger than any mortal being...

This one is for Super Metroid. Spoilers. (duh)

BABY NO. BABY. DON'T DIE. NOOOOOO. IT'S TOO MUCH. THE LITTLE BABY METROID DIES FOR YOU. IT DIES. THE LITTLE BABY METROID THAT BELIEVES YOU ARE IT'S MOTHER. DIES TO PROTECT YOU. AND THE CUTSCENE IN OTHER M MADE ME CRY.

The dying guard in Ocarina of Time was rather sad..

The ENTIRE LAND of Termina will be GONE if you cannot save it in 3 days. That's... pretty depressing. The whole atmosphere of the place adds to the feeling that if you don't do this, the whole land, including you, will be erased from existance.

Probably quite a few that I haven't mentioned, but y'know, there is one character that should NOT have died. A possible spoiler for Earthbound.

Buzz Buzz. The time travelling bee warrior that travels to Onett through a METEOR to warn Ness of the impending threat of Giygas. Not only is this insect a time-traveler but he knows PSI and uses it to help Protect Ness, Pokey and Picky from the Starman junior they encounter soon after their meeting. However, no amount of PSI ability could have protected him from his fate: be smacked with a fly-swatter by Pokey's mom. R.I.P Buzz Buzz, R.I.P.
