Boston Heals

Postby Opheliac » 20 Apr 2013, 20:22

Hey guys-

So as some of you may or may not know I'm a Boston native. Those of you aware of the events that took place this past Monday and throughout the week most likely have some concept of the pain thats rocked my community to its core.
If there is a positive to be found in the midst of all this tragedy, pain, and death, it lies in the unbroken spirit of the city itself. We've lived up to our claim of "Boston Strong" and remain unintimidated, undivided, and unafraid to continue to exist as we always have. Wicked cool if you ask me- I've never been more proud to call myself a Boston girl.
The city is beginning its healing process now. A visible sign of this can be found at the memorial on Boylston Street- the site of the bombing.
I visited that site today. I've never been more moved by anything in my lifetime. It brought many- including myself the closure they needed from the incident. The pictures below are the ones I've taken.

A final note- do not lose faith in your fellow humans. There were two attackers- there have been millions of supporters to respond to them. When you forget that there's good out there- an infinite amount of it- that's when you become a victim. Thats when they win.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

If only people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Israel/Palestine would react this way. And people, outside and inside would react that way to the countless bombings and assassination , then those places would be a better place, and unify together like Boston did.

thanks for the pics, goofy.

As sad as this was, and it was a tragedy, everyone should also think about places where this happens every day. I can't begin to imagine the fear and uncertainty people must feel knowing that they could be blown up on any given day.

True, but it's always "not in my country", so countries other than the one facing a problem are not moved, at least not the majority of them.
For example in my country the story barely made the news, and nobody even knows or cares about it here.
It's the way the world goes, and nothing can be done at this moment to change it.
And you see, no matter how terrible it was for you people over in America, for me in Greece it's nothing more or less than 2-3 dead in a terrorist attack.
Now I understand this was shocking cause America hasn't seen a terrorist attack for 12 years, but a week ago in my country a person murdered 32 people(his employees) so he didn't have to pay them.
And I'm pretty sure the deaths due to old age in <insert country name here> yesterday alone outnumber easily the people injured in the attack.
I hope you understand now why it's hard for other countries to care much about the incident.

I know about that stuff, Shadow. It's just me being optimistic. :P
