I know a lot of you dont drive yet, but u will soon enough. Basically, you're a complete idiot if you try to text/use your smart phone while you're driving - read the following, this is a persons final text message:



Alexander Heit's final text cut off in mid-sentence. Before he could send it, police say the 22-year-old University of Northern Colorado student drifted into oncoming traffic, jerked the steering wheel and went off the road, rolling his car.

Heit died shortly after the April 3 crash, but his parents and police are hoping the photo of the mundane text on his iPhone will serve as a stark reminder to drivers.

The photo, published on Wednesday in The Greeley Tribune, shows Heit was responding to a friend by typing "Sounds good my man, seeya soon, ill tw" before he crashed.

Witnesses told police that Heit appeared to have his head down when he began drifting into the oncoming lane in the outskirts of Greeley, where the University of Northern Colorado is located.

According to police, an oncoming driver slowed and moved over just before Heit looked up and jerked the steering wheel.

Police say Heit, a Colorado native who loved hiking and snowboarding, had a spotless driving record and wasn't speeding.

In a statement released through police, Heit's mother said she doesn't want anyone else to lose someone to texting while driving.

"In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you," Sharon Heit said.

I actually gave a speech in my public speaking class about this very topic last Fall.
Here are the statistics that I wrote on the board. The whole class was rather shocked.

1 in 7 drivers text/talk while driving

4 out of 5 accidents are caused by "phone talkers" (thats what I like to call them)

1 in 3 accidents are caused by drunk drivers (scary how close those two stats are right?)

In the 5 seconds it takes you to read a text, going 55mph, your vehicle has gone the
length of a football feild.

A friend of mine lost his father in a fatal car accident this monday, and I can almost guarantee the person in the other vehicle was on their phone.
DON'T BE A CELL PHONE DRIVER!!! HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!
Because its not just your life you put at risk, its that little kid in the car next to you, or maybe even your own family member in the passenger side seat. . . who are you to risk THEIR life?

._. I have to listen to my mother multitasking(talking and Driving)... Every time She wants to text someone though, I take the phone and do it myself.
But all I can say about smart phones is why not make it so they can read the text you receive out loud so you don't have to pay attention to them and just "talk" to the phone like if it was on speaker so you can actually pay attention to the road without your hands being occupied.

Not really, Iphones can't process work that much, You have to always hold the Button to make it Do one voice command

nah, even talking to the phone is distracting. May not be as bad as using your finger, but you are still focusing on something other than the road = accidents.

Exactly... People just don't get that though...

But everyone picks up bad habbits when you have your own car, and you can drive it etc , you get people texting, drinking , eating , smoking , messing with radio , trying to find something etc list goes on , BUT no matter how many stories come out in the news with people causing accidents and death while doing these things, it shall never stop people from doing it because they think nah i'm not gonna kill myself etc , but it hits people harder if it is friends or family that have died due to these but seriously everyone shall do one of those things while driving , you just do it without thinking .

1. It could have been crushed between the person and the steering wheel, the person getting most of the damage, of course.
2. It might have fallen on the floor, which is carpeted, protecting it from getting smashed.
Or 3. It never left their hand during the whole thing and was in fact pried from their dead fingers...
We all know how protective we are of our electronics, too bad we aren't as protective of what really matters; our lives.
