they say the average laptop today is around 100 thousand times less powerful than the human brain. That's isnt a great difference. 20 or 30 years from now, a computer will have the same processing capacity as the human brain. Once that happens, will computers become self aware? If it happens in carbon based organisms, why not in silicon based ones?

what are your thoughts? Will computers replace humans? Will our own creations destroy us? what what?

That's personally why Siri of the iPhone 4 creeps me the hell out.

the best thing for humanity is to stop developing computer tech. We will live to regret it and then end up deadedfied by the aware computers.

As Long as Humans Are Not Showing any attempt to be dominant when that happens,i would think AI would think about not Creating Conflict..AS Long as they arent Smarter then Us.

Lol, dominant. You know humans would do that to a self awareness AI. We're the dominant species in the world, and A lot of people who would make an AI, would want to show further dominance to the AI.

So, we shouldn't make an AI, because it could get into the wrong hands.

One day there will be a robot or some-thing that learns without being taught or programed and eventually realise that it or they could become the dominet people on earth, but there is always the minority and country's who didn't want to continue to build these things. So either are preparing to kill the people who are making them or make a weapon to destroy the AI's if they do get out of hand.

Long story short....

Personal, I think technology has gone far enough and we should consentrate on renewable energy more and even space exploration.

It is possible to happen one day.
Will we become extinct?
Not sure, depends on if we adapt to the new situation, as did many animals to raise their defences to evolved monkeys with rifles.
If we don't.... Well, we were around for what, 3-4 million years?

anyway, back on topic. Why would a super intelligent AI be friendly to humans? Once humans got smart, they started wiping out any competing species. The aware AI's will probably be no different. I just hope I die of old age before I see the end of humanity at the hands of our very own creations...
