anyway, back on topic. Why would a super intelligent AI be friendly to humans? Once humans got smart, they started wiping out any competing species. The aware AI's will probably be no different. I just hope I die of old age before I see the end of humanity at the hands of our very own creations...

You don't get one single part of this.
If you do create computers that awesome that get their own consciousness,
A) will ALL of them gain consciousness altogether? Nope.
Maybe a bunch of them will, but they can be easily stopped.
B) They will be just that: computers. Sure, they can ruin your personal lives by getting on your facebook, but they won't grow legs and start a rebellion…

You missed a zero, there is no way that it is goin to be in the next 50.
500-1,000 years is more crediable and is the projected that a AI will have be able to do things not in a routine/pattern, most of all be able to make decisions.....That is a projection and there has pojections in the past where world was coming to an end...etc....and that hasn't happened.....

No he got the numbers right.
Cellphones didn't even exist 50 years ago, and now you have phones controlled by voice.
And those are just the phones everyone has access to.
Imagine the level technology has already reached and we will learn in 5-10 years from now.
In 500 years (as you say) we will be in a whole different level...
But in 50 years, computers WILL be smarter than most people.
Computers are smarter than many people in present day, and have infinite knowledge.
So I can't but agree.
