Riot in Greece thoughts?

Postby PoofsHido » 05 May 2010, 22:44

Hi there, I do not know if "General Chat" is actually the correct category however I am doing an essay regarding Greece and I am wondering if you would mind answering this question.

Greece, Rioting over hard austerity methods left 3 people killed inside a torched Athens bank and clouds of tear gas moving over parliament, in a outburst of rage that underlined the lengthy and challenging struggle Greece faces to stay with painful cutbacks which come with a worldwide bailout.

Just what do you think of Greeces circumstance?

As far as my general knowledge about Greece is concerned, it certainly has a future. Each country has to go through reforms to survive. I guess austerity problems have been suffered by most of the countries which have gone bankrupt. This probably maybe because Greece was dependent on the consumerism. I guess the circumstances are simple yet complex, i.e. we may see more riots and more violence but that may lead to a reform which may be the foundation stone for the stability of the nation. I do not think there is an immediate solution to Greece's problems. However, if necessary steps are taken at the right moment, we may see stability come back. It all depends on how the Greek people react to every single moment.

I'm Greek and a generally wealthy person. So maybe I can lend my hand at answering your question. To start the process of answering your question we must learn a few simple things about Greece.

- Greece's main economy was tourisim. It did not have a diverse economy.

- It is very hard for Greece's actual goverment to collect taxes, most of Greece is without a union and people do not live in easily access areas.

- The Olive industry Greece does have is crap. Foriegn investment rules it too a extreme extent, so it isn't Greece who is able to collect the funds. Mostly other countries.

- Investment to try and get more tourisim backfired.

Greece is a poor country that will most likely fail to get back onto it's feet. Bad reputation will take a long time to heal. Greece will be fighting a uphill battle for a long time.
